West Ham are reportedly one of the clubs that are interested in Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba.
According to Calcio Mercato, the Hammers are joined by Fulham and Newcastle United hot on the trails of the enforcer.
The report details that interest from Manuel Pellegrini’s side stems from potentially losing their star centre-back Issa Diop in January.
But West Ham’s interest in Bamba is bizarre and perhaps one that could end up in disaster if he did end up making a switch to the London Stadium.
The 33-year-old, who turns 34 in January, is a no-nonsense centre-back that is currently one of the standout performers for Cardiff in the Premier League.
He is a brilliant aerial threat and is at his dominating best when he sticks to his defensive tasks simply.
But Bamba has been known throughout his career for the odd lapse in concentration and at his age it’s hard to see how much he could realistically add much to Pellegrini’s side.
It would be a considerable step up in pressure from Cardiff to West Ham given the club’s respective ambitions and there is a reason the centre-back has never played at an elite level in his career.
He’s perfect for Cardiff in their fight against relegation as a warrior that will leave everything on the pitch, but West Ham are looking to build towards the European places and it’s unlikely he can take them to that and things could quickly turn sour if he made a difficult start.
