Tom Pearce has thanked Scunthorpe United fans on Twitter after the left-back’s loan spell with the League One club came to an end – suggesting that he is set to return to Leeds United, rather than remain at Glanford Park.
The 21-year-old defender was sent on loan to Scunthorpe as they looked to battle against relegation to the fourth tier of the Football League. He managed only nine appearances.
Pearce is losing his battle to have an impact at Elland Road and build on his breakthrough under Paul Heckingbottom towards the end of last season.
Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski, Leif Davis and Gaetano Berardi are all considered above the England Under-21 international, and another move may be on the cards this summer. He confirmed his Leeds return on Twitter.

Pearce had a 10-game run in the senior side with Leeds last season, as Heckingbottom chose to place his faith in a number of younger players including Paudie O’Connor and Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Now, he must show Marcelo Bielsa why he deserves a place in the side, but he faces a tough battle against him. In terms of his availability for the play-offs, he is unavailable.
Davis, Alioski and Douglas are all injured, and it may see the right-footed Berardi play on the left. But as loan rules state, Pearce will be ineligible. A mix of Leeds and Scunthorpe fans reacted.
