'I tell you now': Declan Rice claims Tottenham's forgotten man is 'one of the toughest' he's ever faced

West Ham star Declan Rice has been speaking about some of his toughest opponents and says Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele is right up there.

The Hammers ace was speaking on the Tubes and Ange Golf Life YouTube channel and answered a whole host of questions about his footballing career so far. Among the questions fired at him were who the toughest players he’s faced in the game are.

And interestingly, Rice named the forgotten Tottenham star Ndombele as one of the very best he’s seen.

“This one will surprise you. He gets slammed and hammered a little bit. It’s going to take you back, but Ndombele, who was with Spurs,” Rice said.

“The perception of him, it shouldn’t be what it is because I tell you now, he is one of the toughest I have played against. He is top. Just a street footballer on the pitch. He takes the ball anywhere, little flicks and tricks. Like he doesn’t care. He does everything so confidently. With players like that, you just have to let them play. Give them the freedom to go out and do whatever they want. When we played against Lyon in the Europa League, he was incredible. He’s a top player.”

Ndombele still has three years left on his contract with Tottenham and is costing the club a huge amount in wages while ever he remains on the books.

TBR’s View: Ndombele Has Quality But Time At Spurs A Failure

Everyone can see Tanguy Ndombele has something special in his locker but the fact is he hasn’t produced half as much as he should have.

Spurs paid a fortune for the Frenchman and while there has been moments of brilliance, Ndombele’s time in the main has been a nightmare.

However, for Rice to say such kind things here shows how good he can be, and it’s more a case of disappointment that Tottenham haven’t seen that player often enough.
