Declan Rice reacted on Twitter to a winning goal from attacker Nathan Holland, as he helped West Ham’s Under-23s side beat Valencia ‘B’ on Wednesday night.
The Hammers beat the Spanish side in the Premier League International Cup and it was a narrow 1-0 victory.
Holland scored the winning goal in the first-half, as he drove forward in possession down the left flank and produced a low finish that went under the goalkeeper.
The 21-year-old has made an excellent start to the new campaign with the club’s youth team and is terrorising full-backs with his skill in wide areas.
His only senior appearance for West Ham came back in 2017, with Manuel Pellegrini yet to give him a shot in the first-team since.
The left-winger has done enough to catch the eye of West Ham first teamer Rice, who responded on social media to his goal with a three-word post.
“What a player,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Holland should take great encouragement from Rice’s praise, who is the perfect role model despite being a year younger.
Rice has managed to successfully make the step up from West Ham’s youth teams to the senior group and he’s now a mainstay in Pellegrini’s side, as well as a regular senior England international.
Holland needs to try follow in his footsteps and aged 21 is facing a crucial next year for his future.
The wide man needs to try continue impressing at Under-23s level and perhaps look at a loan in January if he can’t force his way into Pellegrini’s plans.
