Declan Rice was amongst those to message Sonny Perkins on Instagram after the Leeds United forward continued his stunning run of form in front of goal on Tuesday night.
Leeds’ under-21s won their opening tie in the Papa John’s Trophy as they beat Tranmere Rovers 5-3 in a brilliant game at Prenton Park.

In the last couple of years, the Whites have tended to use an incredibly young side in this competition. However, Michael Skubala was able to use a number of players in and around the first-team.
Sonny Perkins lauded after latest Leeds goal
In fact, Leeds started with a front four of Perkins, Joe Gelhardt, Wilfried Gnonto and Mateo Joseph. Perhaps unsurprisingly, three of the quartet were able to get on the scoresheet.

It was Perkins who got the visitors’ first of the night. Leeds went 2-0 down early on. But Perkins was there to calmly find the back of the net after Joseph’s initial attempt had been saved.
Perkins has now scored in all 10 games he has played for club and country this season. In total, he has 13 strikes to his name. He is most definitely knocking on Jesse Marsch’s door at Elland Road.
Morten Spencer – who started at centre-back on Tuesday – probably summed up Perkins’ form best on Instagram by labelling him a joke.
But the forward also had Rice poking fun at Perkins’ ability to always find the cameras…

Leeds fans got an exciting glimpse of what the club’s future could look like on Tuesday. Obviously, Tranmere are in League Two and they made a number of changes for the game.
But only one team has conceded fewer goals in the fourth tier so far this term. So for Leeds to put five past them is still extremely impressive.
And Perkins continues to lead the way. Rice was able to have a laugh on social media. But surely, he must be wondering how much losing him in the summer is going to come back to haunt West Ham in the future.
