Darren Randolph returned to action on Monday afternoon with West Ham United’s Under-23 side after a spell on the sidelines with a hip and groin problem – and Declan Rice has delivered a six-word verdict on his performance.
Randolph has been on the sidelines for the last six Premier League matches, and was forced to miss out on the latest Ireland squad during the March international break due to his injury. But he returned to action on Monday.
The experienced 33-year-old helped the Hammers to win 2-1 over David Unsworth’s Everton Under-23 side. It was a strong West Ham side that also included Ryan Fredericks, Fabian Balbuena and Manuel Lanzini.
Mipo Odubeko got both goals for West Ham as the Hammers picked up three crucial points in their fight against relegation from Premier League 2’s top tier. Randolph posted on Instagram after helping West Ham win.
Randolph is now likely to be back in the West Ham squad when the Hammers play host to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea on Saturday evening in a crucial clash when it comes to the race for top-four and Champions League qualification.
Hammers star Rice responded to Randolph’s performance and it sounds as if he watched the Under-23 clash – as the England midfielder gave a six-word verdict on Randolph’s display: “Had a cigar out, you did.”
