‘Can only apologise’: Declan Rice has reacted immediately on Twitter to West Ham’s loss at Nottingham Forest

Declan Rice had the unfortunate moment of missing the crucial penalty for West Ham today as they lost to Nottingham Forest.

Rice stepped up in the second half as he looked to slot past Dean Henderson to bring the scores level after Taiwo Awoniyi had put the Reds in front before the break. However, it was not to be for the England midfielder, who saw Dean Henderson swoop down to his right and simply catch a poorly struck penalty into the corner.

For Rice, it will have been a gut-wrenching moment for a player who gives it all for the Hammers. Whether or not he remains on spot-kick duty this season now remains to be seen. However, Rice hasn’t shied away from matters, and took to Twitter after the game to apologise to Hammers fans.

Of course, most West Ham fans will insist there’s nothing for Rice to apologise for. The midfielder is their main man and will have bigger moments than that in the coming season.

Further, the Hammers also did more than enough to warrant taking a point today. Yes, Forest looked good at times and worked hard, but cross bars and a bit of luck from VAR played its part as well.

TBR’s View: Rice Will Keep Going For West Ham

Someone else might fancy stepping up next time but you can guarantee Rice won’t be shying away from taking another penalty if he needs to do so.

Rice is the key man for the Hammers and if they are to be successful again this season, then he’ll be vital to that success.

As expected, Rice has just fronted up here and it shows the character of the Hammers star as well. Rice will be back, and so will West Ham, who can just put this down to ‘one of those days’.
