A decision has been made on the future of a player linked with West Ham United towards the end of last year.

In October last year, the Hammers were believed to be interested in Queens Park Rangers ace Ryan Manning, according to a report from London Football News.

The same outlet then claimed in November that West Ham were seriously considering making an offer in January for the 23-year-old, who has excelled at left-back this term after being converted from midfield (Transfermarkt).

However, January came and went without any further reports as West Ham signed winger Jarrod Bowen, goalkeeper Darren Randolph and midfielder Tomas Soucek, the latter on loan – but no defenders (Transfermarkt).

QPR have now confirmed that they have exercised the option to extend Manning’s contract, as well as that of winger Bright Osayi-Samuel – both of whom were out of contract at the end of this season – until the summer of 2021.

Manning had moved to QPR from Galway United in 2015, subsequently agreeing a new three-year deal in 2017, and has made 82 appearances in all competitions since joining the West Londoners, scoring five goals.

“We will be continuing discussions with Ryan and Bright as we look to extend their deals further,” QPR director of football Les Ferdinand told the official website.

Manning has impressed following Mark Warburton’s decision to deploy him at left-back, and if there’s one thing West Ham are in need of strengthening this summer, it’s their full-back positions.

With Aaron Cresswell now 30 and Arthur Masuaku still not convincing in defence, Manning would be just the kind of young, versatile left-back the club could do with.

With his contract now lasting until the end of the 2020-21 season, the Hammers must move fast over the summer if they want his signature, as QPR are keen to hang on to him long-term.
