This summer a host of teams were being linked with the signature of former Newcastle United talent Yasin Ben El-Mhanni. The one-man showboat reel left the Magpies in the summer under a cloud and teams from across Europe were keeping tabs on him.
One such team was Leeds United. As reported by Goal, Leeds United were keen to take a look at El-Mhanni, although Championship rivals Brentford appeared in the driving seat.
Leeds’s interest in the player did not go beyond the backpages. In the end, El-Mhanni headed to League One. He joined Scunthorpe United at the end of last month.

Leeds fans have probably swiftly forgotten about the fleeting rumour.
But based on his debut display for Scunthorpe the Whites would be right to maintain an active interest in the 23-year-old trickster.
The winger scored on debut yesterday as Scunthorpe lost 3-2 to Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy. It was a well taken goal as well. A driving, swerving, run gave him space to unleash a left-foot drive from range which beat the keeper with a deflection.
El-Mhanni will now hope this is the start of an excellent season with the Iron. With his contract only running until the end of the season, Leeds would be right to maintain tabs.
