Debate rages on Twitter over Richarlison and Roberto Firmino’s international battle

It appears a mini Merseyside rivalry is on the horizon in the Brazilian national team. It revolves around the starting striker spot for Brazil. Everton’s summer signing Richarlison and Liverpool star Roberto Firmino are currently battling for the role.

This week has seen the debate over the pair kick into overdrive on Twitter.

It comes after Brazil’s games against Uruguay and Cameroon in the UK. Selecao struggled to break down La Celeste at the Emirates Stadium last week. Firmino had a particularly poor game and Richarlison’s entry to the game inspired Brazil. Less than 10 minutes after he came on and Brazil scored the eventual winner.

Against Cameroon in Milton Keynes yesterday Richarlison came on early for an injured Neymar. He ended up scoring the winner in the 45th minute of another 1-0 win.

It has led to Everton fans suggesting that Richarlison is the better striker for Brazil. This, of course, did not go down well with Liverpool fans. Many found the suggestion laughable.

Brazilian fans, seemed to be 50-50 with some preferring Richarlison and others Firmino.

The fact is Firmino is not currently in the best of form. But, that said, he has been a sensation for Liverpool in recent seasons. Last term he scored 27 goals and assisted 17 in 54 games. Those are figures that cannot be argued with.

But the debate certainly raged on, with Richarlison currently in better form…

Of course, it must also be remembered that Brazil scored both goals with Firmino and Richarlison on the same pitch…

Maybe working together is the best option for the Merseyside rivals when on international duty.
