Liverpool’s disappointing loss to Arsenal yesterday has certainly caused quite the stir on social media. The all-conquering Reds have wobbled since the restart, with draws against Everton and Burnley as well as losses to Manchester City and, now, Arsenal.
Of course, it is also important to remember that Liverpool tied up a sensational Premier League title win during the same period, which some fans appear to have forgotten.
At least that is the view of one former Liverpool player.
Don Hutchison, who featured for the Reds between 1990 and 1994 and eventually played for Merseyside rivals Everton, responded to one fan on Twitter who was being particularly disparaging of Liverpool’s Dutch dynamo Georginio Wijnaldum.
Safe to say, Hutchison was not in agreement.
There’s no doubt that this was not Wijnaldum, or any of the current Liverpool players’ best game.
However, as the former Scotland international pointed out, Wijnaldum and co have been in imperious form throughout 2019-20.

To have that momentum forcibly ceased by the global health crisis and then finally win the title, must release a massive tension from the players.
The idea they would then not take their foot off the gas seems laughable.
Liverpool’s players have rightly earned some slack and Wijnaldum, a man who has played 45 times this season, and has Klopp’s unrelenting trust, more than most.
As long as they are all back firing for the start of next season, Liverpool fans will be happy.
