Some Spurs fans have bemoaned the news that referee Craig Pawson is to take charge of this Sunday’s North London derby.

Tottenham head to Arsenal at the weekend hoping to win local bragging rights as well as three valuable points.

However, Spurs’ form has taken a turn for the worse since the international break.

Two consecutive 3-0 defeats in the Premier League have dealt Tottenham a big confidence blow.

In addition, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura remain doubts for the derby after being ruled out against Wolves in the League Cup.

Meanwhile, Arsenal were in dire straits before the international break, but have now picked up two consecutive clean-sheet league wins in a row.

Now, news that Pawson will officiate the derby – as per the Premier League website – hasn’t gone down too well with some Tottenham supporters.

Here’s what some Spurs fans have been saying on Twitter:

Pawson has taken charge of 24 Spurs games over the years, which have seen 48 yellows, two reds and a penalty.

The 42-year-old sent off Son Heung-min in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth in May 2019.

Spurs made an appeal for wrongful dismissal the following week, but it was unsuccessful.
