DeAndre Yedlin has told Sky Sports that it is “very important” that Newcastle United offer manager Rafa Benitez a new deal to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.
The 25-year-old defender has been ever-present for Benitez this season. The USA international has made 25 appearances in the Premier League, but has been left on the bench for the last two outings.
Despite that, Yedlin has urged his club to keep Benitez. The Spanish boss is in the final few months of his contract at Newcastle, with a deal yet to be agreed over his future beyond the summer.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland man Yedlin has urged his club to keep Benitez. It is believed Benitez is earning £77,000 a week as manager of the club, according to the Chronicle.

“I think it’s very important [to keep him at Newcastle long term],” Yedlin said. “I think everybody has seen how he has brought the City together. Even though we didn’t start the best, we’ve ended well.
“So as I say, I think it’s very important. All the fans love him, all the players love him and it would be great if he was to sign.”
TBR’s view
It would be a travesty for Newcastle fans, the club and indeed the improving squad of players for Benitez to leave. The former Real Madrid boss has created somewhat of a legacy at the club.
Working on a shoe string, he has turned Newcastle back into an established Premier League side. Now six points clear of the relegation zone with nine games to play, it seems as though the Toon will survive.
Owner Mike Ashley would be one of the most hated men in football if Benitez does not stay. It is an absolute must for Newcastle to keep the Champions League winner.
