Aston Villa manager Dean Smith was left massively impressed by John McGinn following his display on Monday night.
The Scottish midfielder caught the eye in a 3-0 away win against Fulham in the Premier League, which means they have now won both top-flight games of the new season.
McGinn was instrumental going forward with two assists in the victory, as well as being busy all over the park with his energy and tenacious attitude.
The 25-year-old has proven on his day he’s a serious talent that brings a lot to the Midlands giants and he can offer so much in both halves of the pitch.
He is an all-action left-footer that started last season in magnificent form, but it was disrupted by an ankle injury and he never quite replicated his best until the back-end of the campaign.
Smith singled out McGinn for his latest league performance and waxed lyrical about all his different qualities.
“Super ball over the top from John McGinn [for the first goal], who I thought was excellent tonight. Covered every blade of grass,” Smith said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
“He’s back to full fitness, he’s one hell of a player at this level. He’ll continue to keep playing well for us because that’s what he is. Great character around the place, probably the biggest character in the dressing room, big heart, big lungs, big player for us.”
Despite the arrival of some incredible new signings this summer, it almost feels like McGinn is a new addition following his comeback from an injury and he looks back to his very best.
The box-to-box midfielder has a great understanding with captain and it will be intriguing to see if he can strike a partnership with Ollie Watkins too.
McGinn, 25, may not have reached his peak yet and it looks like this could be a big season for him if he can stay injury free.
