Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has reiterated the desire to keep John McGinn at the club for a long time, The Express reports.
McGinn played the full 90 minutes for Aston Villa in the 2-1 win against Brighton and Hove Albion – his 10th appearance of the season. The Scotland international has played a key role all season with three goals and an assist from central midfield.
For the whole of Smith’s reign as Villa manager, McGinn has been a mainstay. The left-footed midfielder contributes with goals, assists, boundless energy and commitment. This is why Smith wants to keep McGinn at Villa Park.
Smith on McGinn

When quizzed about the 25-year-old’s future, Smith said (via The Express): “The big clubs can come calling but they’ll get a short, swift reply! He’s a player we want here at Aston Villa.
“His value shot up from the moment he stepped out onto the Villa Park pitch and showed just what a player he is. He has an unbelievable energy level and a big, big heart, but people don’t see the technical side of it as well – he’s got that in abundance.”
TBR’s view
It is no surprise to see clubs like Manchester United chasing McGinn (as per this report). He is a proven performer in the Premier League and he is getting better with each game he plays.
McGinn seems settled at Aston Villa and his price tag is rocketing. It would take something special for Villa to part ways with the popular Scotsman who recently signed a long-term contract.
