Aston Villa manager Dean Smith reckons his side aren’t deserving of being 18th after six Premier League games.

The Villans are currently in the relegation zone after winning just one game against Everton so far.

They have taken four points from their first six games, but Smith feels that is not a true reflection of their efforts so far.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Smith revealed the only team that actually deserved to beat his side were Tottenham Hotspur in the first weekend of fixtures.

He said: “It’s very harsh because I look at the eight games we’ve played this season [in all competitions] and think only Tottenham have been better than us.

Smith pointed to mistakes against Bournemouth, and also said the team were good against Everton and West Ham United.

The manager also thought they were better than losing 3-2 to Arsenal and should have saw out the game.

TBR’s view

Villa have undoubtedly been better than their position in the table suggests.

The Midlands club have been somewhat unlucky so far, and perhaps the squad’s collective lack of top-flight experience has cost them up to now.

The signs are certainly there that Villa will soon string together a run of positive results.

They just need to keep grinding away and be better focused, because there cannot be room silly mistakes in the Premier League.
