Dean Smith has told Aston Villa’s official website that Jack Grealish was very, very good upon his return to training, admitting that you almost forget how much quality he possesses.

Villa have been without their talisman for their last six games due to a shin injury. And without him, they have struggled.

They beat Leeds at Elland Road. But that has been their only win in that recent run, with three defeats also coming their way. They also failed to score in three of their fixtures.

But the good news is Grealish is back in contention to return ahead of the weekend. And ahead of the clash with Fulham, Smith shared how much of a lift Grealish’s return has provided.

“He’s joined in and his first session, I must admit, he was very, very good,” he told the club’s official website.

“It was mouth-watering to see what we’ve been missing a little bit, you sometimes forget how good he actually is until he comes back into training.

“He’s been excellent, as you can imagine.”

It will come as no surprise that Grealish has had a direct hand in more goals than any other Villa player this term. His tally of six goals and 10 assists leaves him three clear of Ollie Watkins and eight ahead of Bertrand Traore.

So it will be a huge boost if he is ready for Fulham on Sunday. The Villans have slid down the table slightly in recent weeks.

They still have an opportunity to achieve something incredibly special this term. But they need to get themselves back on track as soon as possible.

Grealish’s return therefore, could not have come at a better time.
