Dean Smith outlines faith in attacking options after not signing deadline day striker

Dean Smith has backed his existing Aston Villa striking options to do the business in the Premier League, as per the Express and Star.

Smith brought Wesley to Villa Park during the window to replace the goals that Tammy Abraham’s return to Chelsea after his loan spell took away, and let Scott Hogan go on loan to Stoke.

And he said: “I feel Jonathan Kodjia’s game is more suited to the Premier League than it was the Championship. I think he can be a big player for us this season.

“You only have to speak to our players to find out what they think of Keinan Davis. He bullies them in training. I had no qualms in keeping the both of them.”

Abraham’s departure offers Davis and Kodjia a chance to step up and make a real impression in the top flight and it’s clear that Smith feels they can do that.

But would Smith want to rely on that duo if Wesley did get an injury or struggle to adapt to life in the Premier League?

It could be a struggle, but the mood around Villa is such that they will take on any challenges that the Premier League throws up and Smith believes in his players to deal with them.
