Dean Smith has lauded Jacob Ramsey following his display in Aston Villa’s 1-0 win at Leeds on Saturday, insisting that the youngster is getting better and better – in comments reported by Birmingham Live.
It seems remarkable that the 19-year-old was making only his second Premier League start at Elland Road. The teenager was outstanding as the Villans secured a hugely impressive three points.
As shown by Whoscored.com, Ramsey was one of just three Villa players to make a key pass during the game. He also won two tackles and made one interception.
It proved to be an evening in which the starlet showed that he is not out of place at the highest level. And following the game, Smith insisted that he was delighted with his display.
“Really impressed. He’s also impressed all of the other players in training as well,” he said, as reported by Birmingham Live.
“He deserves his chances he’s been getting. I started him at Wolves earlier in the season and done well. He’s first sub at times now and came on at Chelsea, Manchester United and Man City. He’s just getting better and better.”
Ramsey has certainly staked a claim for more starts before the campaign concludes.
Of course, Smith will be wary of rushing his development. Villa appear to have another special talent on their hands, but they cannot afford to get carried away at this stage.
But it says a lot that Smith has only started him when the Villans have been faced with a tough away trip. He was excellent against Wolves in December. And he proved to be a standout performer once again this weekend.
