Dean Smith has labelled John McGinn exceptional following Aston Villa’s defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday, and claimed that he is winning a lot of admirers amongst Premier League bosses – in comments reported by Birmingham Live.
It was McGinn who rounded off the move that got Villa off to a flying start against the soon-to-be champions.
The Scot found the bottom corner to give the Villans the lead inside 21 seconds. Unfortunately, Villa were unable to hold onto their advantage in what proved to be an incredibly dramatic game.
It became a difficult evening for the Villa players with City playing some outstanding football.
And while Smith conceded that McGinn could have used the ball better over the course of the game, he insisted that he could not ask for much more from the 26-year-old.
“I was really pleased for McGinn to get the goal. He’s one of our unsung heroes at times; his work-rate and what he gives to the team is exceptional,” he said, as reported by Birmingham Live.
“He’ll be the first to admit at times that his passing could be better but he gives us everything. He deserves that goal. He’s been playing a little bit deeper at times this year and doing fantastically well.
“He’s the envy of a lot of the Premier League managers whenever we play against them.”
McGinn has proved to be an incredible signing for the Villans.
He has only missed one league game so far this season. And only Jack Grealish has provided more assists than the energetic midfielder.
So it is little surprise that other Premier League bosses are admirers of his game. But if any hope to lure him away from Villa Park, they are surely going to have to be prepared to break the bank.
