Dean Smith favourite Lasse Vibe would be brilliant addition at Aston Villa

Aston Villa appear set to lose Scott Hogan this month, whilst there has also been a suggestion that Jonathan Kodjia could be looking for an exit.

Aston Villa should, therefore, be looking at strengthening the attacking department.

This weekend has seen Charlie Austin linked with a move to the club, which would be a fantastic marquee arrival. But Aston Villa could also look to Dean Smith’s past to find a cost-effective and reliable recruit.

Lasse Vibe was a popular player for Brentford under Dean Smith. In fact, when Scott Hogan left for Villa it was Vibe that took up the slack. In February last year, Smith and Brentford sold the Danish international. As reported by the Daily Mail, Chinese Super League outfit Changchun Yatai spent £2 million to sign him just over a year ago.

“He’s a really good player, an intelligent lad and he’s got a lovely family. He was a really good type to have here.

“We’ve always said it’s more likely to happen than not. He’s done great for me. I’ve been a big fan of him while he’s been here.

“He’ll be missed but he will be replaced. He was a great lad to have around, a very intelligent footballer and scored a number of goals for us.”

Now, however, it appears he could be an easy target for Aston Villa.

Changchun Yatai were relegated from the Super League last season. They are now in China’s second-tier. Teams in the division are allowed to register just three foreign players. The trio registered by Vibe’s current club are Odion Ighalo, Nemanja Pejcinovic and new signing Adrian Mierzejewski.

It appears that he could, therefore, be available and Aston Villa could use a tireless, versatile and dangerous attacker.

Vibe would not be a headline maker of a signing, but he is trusted by Smith and would bring some serious legwork to the Aston Villa attack.

If the chance is there to sign the player the Smith should snap it up.
