Dean Henderson will sign a new contract at Manchester United before rejoining Sheffield United on loan for the coming season, according to the Daily Mirror.

They report that the Red Devils are keen to sort the goalkeeper’s long-term future but are happy for him to continue his development at Bramall Lane.

Blades boss Chris Wilder said: “Dean made it clear, he has a very strong interest in coming back. Manchester United are happy to go along with that. He wants his United contract sorted out first.

“But in terms of putting another temporary deal in place, I think we’re in a good place. Dean was outstanding for us last season and being able to bring him back again for another year would be brilliant.”

Getting Henderson back through the door would be a genuine boost for Wilder, because the Englishman was vital to their promotion bid last term.

He marshalled a tight defence in the Championship, which is going to be examined far more rigorously in the top flight, as well as making vital saves at crucial times.

He’s also a lively, popular figure with exactly the kind of spirit Wilder demands of his players. And if he does want to impress United long-term, playing in the Premier League is the next step in his development.
