Dean Ashton has claimed Leeds United fans will be worried amid reported interest in their manager Marcelo Bielsa.

According to La Republica, the Whites boss is being eyed to take charge of Peru’s national side.

He’s previously managed both Argentina and Chile on the international stage, while he’s got a glowing reputation in South America.

Bielsa has made a colossal impact this season during his first year at Elland Road and turned Leeds into an eye-catching team.

They have just missed out on automatic promotion, which means they have to go through the play-offs and they face Derby County in a two-legged semi-final.

Former England striker Ashton believes Leeds fans will be concerned about reports linking Bielsa with another job.

“I’m pretty sure Leeds fans will be worried if any job came up with him being linked to it. Certainly if you’re looking at that part of the world, you would be worried he would want to go back over that side of the world,” Ashton told Football League World.

“But, I think there’s a hell of a lot of football still to be played before Bielsa makes a decision on his future. I think Leeds fans would be absolutely gutted if he was to leave, certainly if they don’t make it to the Premier League.”

TBR’s View:

Bielsa seems like the best thing to happen to Leeds in recent memory, but this whole season will be for nothing if they don’t win promotion and he exits in the summer.

The Argentine boss has a history of short stints in charge of clubs and he’s been at the likes of Lille, Lazio, Marseille and Athletic Bilbao in his career.

He’s got every ounce of quality out of the Leeds players to turn them into promotion contenders and has done it with his own high pressing style.

They have the quality to overcome their play-off rivals if they play near their best, but the stakes are now higher than ever.
