Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez has waxed lyrical about Spurs teammate Harry Kane, saying the England captain is always pushing the team to improve.

Jose Mourinho’s charges went into Sunday’s Premier League meeting with West Brom on the back of three top-flight defeats in a row.

Kane was absent against Brighton and Chelsea due to an ankle injury, and in both of those games, Tottenham struggled on the attacking front.

However, the 27-year-old’s return to the Spurs starting XI proved the catalyst for a return to winning ways.

Kane opened the scoring against the Baggies in the 54th minute before Son Heung-min doubled Tottenham’s lead just before the hour.

Sanchez, who also returned to the XI, admitted that Kane’s return against the Baggies brought some confidence back to the team.

“He brings a lot to the team as a striker and as a leader,” the £42million man told football.london. “Harry Kane shows every season his importance.

“You can’t say anything else but the fact that he’s such an important player, a captain, a leader and a player who is pushing all the time, pushing the team to get higher. I can’t say any more about him.

“All of us can learn and he is one of the leaders, an example to all of us about how we can improve.”

It’s frightening to see just how much Kane is continuing to progress – not only is his goal tally as good as ever, but his assist tally is also shooting right up and his overall play is simply unbelievable.

However, it’s also worrying to see just how much Spurs struggle without him in the team – this is something Mourinho desperately needs to address in the summer.
