Tottenham defender Ben Davies wants his international team-mate Gareth Bale to join him during the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The duo played together as Wales overcame Slovakia 1-0 thanks to an early Daniel James goal on Sunday afternoon and urged Bale to make a return to Spurs after a tough season at Real Madrid.

Davies said: “He’s come under a bit of flak at Madrid recently, but for Wales he’s always been brilliant. I’m always going to say it’s unfair, he is one of the best players in the world, we see it every day in training.

“I’d definitely have him at Tottenham. But I don’t know how likely that is. “He’s always the player that wants to be there and put his heart on the line for the team and I’m sure he’ll do it again.”

Davies, who earns £60,000 a week at Tottenham according to Spotrac, could be a key influence on Bale’s decision on his future this summer as his struggles at Real Madrid continue.

Most Spurs fans would have Bale back but it’s just whether they can afford his wages, which are likely to be substantial, especially for an ageing player who has had his injury problems down the years.

But if he could be a talismanic presence for Spurs like he’s been for Wales, then Bale would be a welcome addition.
