David Unsworth has been discussing the future of Everton talent Nathangelo Markelo, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Everton snapped up the talented Dutchman in the summer of 2017 after he impressed in an international club tournament with FC Volendam.
The versatile midfielder, who can also play at right-back, has since established himself as one of Everton’s top rising talents.

However, his displays have been inconsistent and it is not yet known if the Toffees have plans to renew his current deal.
The 21-year-old recently put in an impressive display against Chelsea in an under-23 clash and Everton under-23 boss David Unsworth says more of the same is needed to secure his long-term future at Finch Farm, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
“…That’s probably his best game for us this year.
“If he were to put 10 games, like that, back-to-back, I’m sure Marcel would be getting a lot of phone calls about him.”
“When he performs like that you wouldn’t want to let him go and he’d be a massive asset but it’s really down to him, and his performances, what the future holds.”
TBR’s View
The talented Dutch youth international is a player whom plenty of Everton fans have high hopes for. However, the youngster clearly faces a big second-half of the campaign if he is to secure his Everton future.
With the likes of midfield rivals Beni Baningime and Dennis Adeniran already at the club, Markelo needs to prove himself top of the class to secure that new deal.
If not, his versatility and improved performances will no doubt mean plenty of offers. But for Everton to join the scramble, it seems Markelo still has more to do before that contract expires in the summer.
