David Unsworth has told the Liverpool Echo that he is “delighted” that Everton have agreed a deal with playmaker Anthony Gordon to keep him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2023.
The 18-year-old sensation has starred for Unsworth’s second string of late. He even has one appearance for the senior side under his belt, turning out against Apollon Limassol last season.
Gordon, and England Under-18 international, had attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. But he chose not to become another English youngster trying his luck in Germany, and instead remains at Everton.
Under-23 managed Unsworth spoke of his delight at seeing Gordon remain. He believes the youngster has a bright future ahead of him, as the teenager continues to nail down a spot in the reserve side.

“I’m delighted,” Unsworth said. “When you are 17, you are always looking over your shoulder and wondering: ‘Is it coming? Is it coming?
“But his performances have been fantastic for us, he’s a great lad and we’re delighted to have got his signature on a contract. He’s got a bright future.”
TBR’s view
Everton need a spark from somewhere. Another loss against Newcastle on Saturday has piled the pressure on Marco Silva even more – especially with the Toffees going 2-0 up against the Tyneside club.
There seems to be a lack of passion in the side under Silva. So why not throw a local lad into the side that fans can get behind, instilling a bit of raw talent and enthusiasm.
Gordon can do just that. He would not only show creativity, but the kind of heartfelt passion that comes with playing for your boyhood club. It is time for Silva to go big, and give Gordon a chance.
