Arsenal legend David Seaman has told The Gary Newbon Sports Show that it’s vitally important for the club to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The ex-England goalkeeper has said the Gunners must show the same level of commitment as they did when they tied down Mesut Ozil to a £350,000-a-week contract.

The Gabon international took his tally to 29 for the 2019/20 campaign with a brace in Saturday’s FA Cup Final win over Chelsea.

Seaman thinks Arsenal need to pull out the stops to keep the 31-year-old at the football club for the foreseeable.

He told The Gary Newbon Sports Show: Make him an offer he can’t refuse. They did it with Ozil, so why not do it with our best player.

“It’s vitally important that they keep players like him and then still add onto the squad because it does need strengthening.

“He’s looking at his last contract realistically, he is 31, and if he gets a three or four-year deal he is going to be set. So it’s vitally important.”

Aubameyang has been a revelation for the Gunners and they’ll want to keep him around.

Decision

With the Champions League once again not on offer at Arsenal, he may get offers from elsewhere – although Arsenal will probably try and resist a sale.

Seaman does suggest it’ll likely be his last contract but at the same time, it could be the last chance for him to move to a club competing in the Champions League.

Keeping Aubameyang won’t be easy and as the ex-custodian suggests, they might need to break the bank in order to do so.

The star man already earns £250,000-a-week at the Emirates and a deal akin to that of Ozil’s might be required to tempt him to stay.
