David Prutton comments on Leeds signing Jean-Kevin Augustin to boost firepower

Former Leeds midfielder David Prutton has praised the signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin and said he might prompt an improvement from Patrick Bamford.

The Sky Sports pundit said he is intrigued about how the 22-year-old hitman will fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s style as he goes in search of the firepower needed to reach the Premier League.

He said: “It’s certainly a lot for a Leeds fan to get excited about. I’m intrigued to see the way he fits into the way Bielsa wants to play football. He’s similar to Nketiah. If Leeds’ woes continue going forward, then Bielsa has got to seriously think about starting a player like that.

“The flip side of bringing in signings is how it might spur someone else on. Bamford might think he’s got to pull his finger out or Pablo Hernandez might think he’s the player to push them onto the next level. It’s, hopefully, good business all round.”

TBR’s View – Augustin has the quality to be a Premier League player when on song

Augustin has scored goals in Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and the Europa League and was the subject of interest from Everton and Leicester (Telegraph) in May last year.

At just 22, he has the qualities to be a top flight player in England too, so if he can hit the ground running, he should be able to help net the goals to take Leeds there.

There are no certainties with January signings but where Leeds failed last year with Daniel James, they have got their big move over the line this time around.

That might help convince their fans that this year will be different to last. Now Augustin just needs to adjust to Bielsa’s style of play.
