David Ornstein has been giving his latest update on all things transfer related and had some words to say about Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips is one of the most in-demand players in this January window. He is surplus to requirements and is attracting plenty of attention.
The likes of Newcastle are keen in the Premier League, alongside Liverpool. Tottenham have also shown an interest, Juventus and PSG have also been credited with taking a good look Phillips.
However, while talk of a move to Turin has gathered pace, David Ornstein has said that as of now, there’s nothing sorted with Phillips and there’s even another club, Crystal Palace, who have enquired.

David Ornstein shares what he’s heard about Kalvin Phillips now
Answering questions in his latest Q&A for The Athletic, Ornstein had the following update on the City midfielder.
“His preference is to go abroad, but nothing has been decided yet. Juventus approached Manchester City a while back and conversations continue. The issue here is whether Massimiliano Allegri wants to take Phillips. Newcastle haven’t moved yet. Perhaps that changes later in the window, but it will depend on the return dates of their injured players. There’s a good chance they don’t move for him at all. Crystal Palace are among the other clubs to have enquired, but no developments there. The reported Paris Saint-Germain interest is not accurate, as I understand it.”
Phillips will have to be patient
The problem Kalvin Phillips has here is that he is on a healthy contract with City and clubs will be weighing up how they get around that.
The Manchester club are also likely to want some sort of fee to let Phillips go on loan, while a permanent deal would come at a big cost as well, given City paid around £45m for him.
Phillips, then, simply needs to stay patient. Clearly, there is a clamour to sign him and that’s a good position for him to be in heading into the rest of the month.
Whether it be Juventus, Newcastle, or even someone else, there’s plenty to be optimistic about for the former Leeds man.
