Newcastle United have been trying to sign Marc Guehi for a long time now.

Guehi has been linked with Newcastle for weeks, but, as of yet, they haven’t made any real progress on this deal.

Newcastle have had bid after bid rejected for Guehi, but, as of yet, there’s been no breakthrough.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, David Ornstein has been discussing Guehi’s situation, and he shared some interesting insight into Newcastle’s latest bid to sign the defender.

Newcastle’s latest Marc Guehi bid hasn’t been rejected

Ornstein shared an update on Guehi, claiming that Newcastle’s latest bid to sign him hasn’t actually been rejected.

“Newcastle have clearly identified him, Eddie Howe in particular, as his top target for the window,” Ornstein said.

“There have been multiple bids now, maybe three or four maybe. Could it breakthrough before the deadline? The door hasn’t been closed.

“I don’t think there has been a rejection of the most recent offer, so perhaps there is some wriggle-room. I don’t know where it is right now, but Newcastle have gone really far on this, and understandably so because he’s a top player.”

Crystal Palace could sell Marc Guehi

The fact that Crystal Palace haven’t rejected Newcastle’s latest bid for Marc Guehi is encouraging.

Palace have previously been quick to knock Newcastle back, but it sounds as though this offer is being considered.

Palace may need to sign a replacement first before sanctioning a sale for Guehi.

Luckily, Palace have been linked with a move for Joe Gomez, and if that deal progresses, you could see Guehi to Newcastle progress.

This Guehi saga has been one of the transfer stories of the summer, and Newcastle may finally get their man in the final days of the window.

This remains a situation to keep an eye on as we get closer and closer to the transfer deadline.
