Mohamed Salah’s contract situation remains the biggest story at Liverpool right now.

The Reds may be flying high at the top of the Premier League, but Salah’s contract remains the key talking point at Anfield right now.

Salah is open to a new one-year deal, and according to David Ornstein, speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, Salah will receive an offer of a new deal very soon.

Virgil van Dijk was offered a new deal this week, and Ornstein believes Salah will receive an offer too in the near future.

Salah has been tipped as a Ballon d’Or winner after his incredible start to this season, and Liverpool need to do all they can to keep him.

Mohamed Salah set to be offered new contract

Ornstein spoke about Salah’s situation, claiming that he expects the winger to be offered a new deal soon.

Salah’s situation has been up in the air for a while, but it seems as though things could come to a head soon.

“Well, so an offer has gone to him (Van Dijk), which hasn’t happened so far with Mohamed Salah. I would expect, I do expect Salah to receive an offer very soon. Why he hasn’t so far and Van Dijk has is something that maybe only Liverpool can explain,” Ornstein said.

“Perhaps they’re prioritising their captain. Perhaps the gap between what they’re prepared to offer Salah and what he wants is such that you don’t go to him with a proposal if you fear it may antagonise him. But in the case of Van Dijk, talks have been going on for some time.”

Why Liverpool need to offer Salah a new contract soon

Liverpool look to have stepped up their attempts to keep hold of their key players, and for good reason.

Indeed, we’re only a few weeks away from the January transfer window, and that means that these players will be able to negotiate with other clubs in the new year.

Salah has recently been linked with PSG, and if negotiations start in January, the Egyptian’s head could be turned.

Looking at Salah’s stats this season, it’s easy to see why Liverpool want to keep him.

The same goes for Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked with Real Madrid, and those talks can officially begin on January 1st if Liverpool don’t tie the full-back down to a new deal.

Don’t be surprised if there is concrete movement on all three of these players before the January transfer window opens.
