Arsenal have been heavily linked with Ivan Toney in recent months, and speculation is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window.

For instance, The Evening Standard recently reported that the Gunners are frontrunners for the Brentford ace, alongside Chelsea.

Arsenal are weighing up whether to bolster their forward line to boost their title bid, added the report.

David Ornstein has now shared what he knows about Toney transfer-wise amid links with Mikel Arteta’s side.

The journalist held a Q&A on The Athletic, with one fan asking him which team he felt Toney was most likely to represent come February.

“As things stand, I suspect Brentford – but I don’t say that with a great deal of confidence,” said Ornstein.

“I’m not aware of any meaningful developments on his future and therefore a summer transfer currently looks more likely.

“That will give suits six months to assess his performance levels and physical condition once he returns from the betting ban.

“That said, we all know anything can happen in the market!”

Toney a great shout for Arsenal but January move seems unlikely – TBR View

Arsenal have begun the season well, but it still feels like they’re not quite the fully finished product just yet.

For instance, there have been games where they’ve not been putting teams to bed as you’d expect from a team of the Gunners’ calibre and ambitions.

This is where Toney could fit in. He would be a focal point for Arsenal, a clinical finisher to convert a bigger percentage of the many chances the Gunners create.

At the same time, it doesn’t look like the Bees are looking to sell up any time soon. Indeed, Sky Sports recently reported that they still value him at £100million.

This very much looks like a close-season sort of signing, so while the speculation will continue ahead of and during January, it doesn’t look that likely.
