David Ornstein shares length of contract Liverpool are discussing with Federico Chiesa

Liverpool have been fairly quiet on the transfer front for most of the summer, but they’ve now got the ball rolling with regards to potential late signings.

The Reds finally announced their first summer signing on Tuesday as they confirmed that agreement has been reached over Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Although the Georgia international won’t be linking up with Liverpool until next year, the Reds are now in talks over a potential outfield signing who would join right away.

The player in question is Italy international Federico Chiesa, who has been frozen out at Juventus and is likely to move away this summer.

A few hours after Romano’s exciting update on Liverpool and Chiesa, David Ornstein of The Athletic has now shared what he knows about the state of play.

David Ornstein says Liverpool discussing four-year deal with Federico Chiesa

Ornstein has taken to X to say Liverpool are indeed working to complete the signing of the 26-year-old before Friday night’s deadline.

The journalist said Chiesa is available for around €15million (£12.5million) and Liverpool are discussing a possible four-year deal with the player.

Liverpool are “long-term admirers” of the Azzurri ace, added Ornstein, who also cited Fabrizio Romano in his X post.

Why Federico Chiesa to Liverpool is a great idea

Although Liverpool already have a pretty strong front line, it looks as though they’ve decided Chiesa is too good an opportunity to miss.

As per Ornstein and Romano, the Reds look set to sign a world-class attacking talent in his prime for less than £15million.

Admittedly, Chiesa has had his fair share of injury issues in recent years, but the fact Liverpool are already well stocked in attack is good for both parties.

If Chiesa does struggle fitness-wise, the Reds have more than enough cover not to have to rely on him too much.

And if he does stay fit and hit the heights he’s capable of reaching, then it’s obviously a huge bonus for Arne Slot’s side.

In addition, with Liverpool set to challenge on four fronts this season, strength in depth will be absolutely crucial, and Chiesa certainly helps to provide extra depth.
