David Ornstein says Martin Odegaard won’t need to isolate upon Arsenal arrival

David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed a boost for Arsenal if they are successful in landing Real Madrid midfielder, Martin Odegaard.

The Gunners are closing in on the signing of the Madrid midfielder, with talk yesterday from numerous reports and journalists suggesting Odegaard’s deal is all but done.

However, there had been concerns over when Arsenal fans might actually get to see Odegaard in action, given the UK’s current strict lockdown and self-isolation rules for arriving nationals.

But Ornstein, taking to his Twitter account last night, moved to allay any fears Gunners fans might have and said an elite sports person exemption means it’s good news for the Gunners.

Of course, Arsenal will still have to get Odegaard up to speed in terms of fitness and sharpness. The Norwegian has been deprived of minutes on the pitch in Madrid and will no doubt take some time to adjust.

However, it looks like the pandemic won’t impact Odegaard for now, unless he returns a positive test on arrival.

Another timely boost for the Gunners here in relation to their incoming transfer. Signing Odegaard and him having to self-isolate would be a bit of a pain but the exemption means he can at least get down to business.

The Gunners will be hoping that, given his age and his training with Madrid, that it won’t be too long before he is up to speed.
