The Athletic’s David Ornstein has been talking about Harry Kane and a potential move to Manchester United during next summer.
Kane is under contract until 2024 and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich in recent times. The Spurs star is a key man for Tottenham and Antonio Conte but as yet, hasn’t signed a new contract at the club.
There has been no indication from Kane’s end that he might want to leave just yet. However, David Ornstein believes it’s one to keep an eye on, especially with Kane’s contract only having 20 months to run.
“One to keep an eye on and I’m not suggesting anything brewing here is Harry Kane. United, of course, have long been reported admirers of him. Harry Kane is under contract until 2024 and there hasn’t really been much suggestion of a new contract coming,” Ornstein said on the Five Podcast.

“Tentative reports here and there that Tottenham would want to tie him down. But you know, after that failed move to Manchester City that never materialised, rumours of Bayern Munich, would United make a play at that? Next summer he’ll have a year on his contract and you’ve been told at various times as a reporter that if Tottenham are challenging, winning trophies, pushing at the top of the league and Champions League, then that would be to Kane’s liking. He wants to succeed. And if that’s the case and the numbers are right then maybe you get to a new contract.
“But if Tottenham are still at the level they’ve been at in recent years, maybe he’ll wait to leave as a free agent. Or maybe Daniel Levy will be a bit more open to sanctioning a departure that brings him a return if he’s not going to sign a new contract. So I guess that’s one to watch.”
TBR’s View: Kane Has Always Been One United Should Sign
When you think back to the era of United dominance, the signing of Harry Kane would have already been done and dusted you feel.
Of course, we are in a different era now and Spurs and United are very much in the same pond, when it comes to the table anyway. But United remain a giant of the game, and there will be a temptation from Kane to move if he sees Erik ten Hag getting them progressing.
This is a tricky one for Tottenham to manage. Kane is world class and they can’t replace him. But at the same time, they’d hate to see him walk away for nothing as well.
