David Ornstein says Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is obsessed with the idea of signing £51m overseas player

Arsenal remain active in the summer transfer window but a move for Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling hangs in the balance.

The Gunners are unlikely to sign Sterling and a deal for Bayern Munich attacker Kingsley Coman is thought to be off the table.

With hours left of the window, it seems Arteta will have to settle with Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino as his only additions.

Though, transfer specialist David Ornstein has just reported that he’s obsessed with the idea of signing a winger from the continent.

Mikel Arteta’s top target remains Nico Williams

Speaking to Sky Sports, David Ornstein revealed that Arteta’s top target remains Nico Williams ‘by a mile.’

“We know Arsenal love Nico Williams, he would be Mikel Arteta’s top choice by a mile if they were going to recruit a wide player, but he seems really happy where he is at the moment,” Ornstein said.

“It’s not PlayStation or Football Manager.”

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Nico Williams for most of the summer but it became evident earlier this month that he was set to stay at Bilbao beyond the summer.

Perhaps The Gunners will reignite their interest during the January transfer window…

Arsenal not expected to make further incomings

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has reported that Arsenal are not expected to make any more signings before tonight’s deadline.

“Arsenal were looking at the possibility of adding a wide forward before the deadline but, as it stands, they do not look likely to do so,” Sheth said.

“That means any potential deal for Raheem Sterling or Kingsley Coman is not expected to happen.”
