David Ornstein says Arsenal are now ready to sell player who Mikel Arteta loves for £25m

Arsenal are working hard to build a competitive squad as they aim to dethrone Manchester City in the Premier League summit.

The Gunners are looking to go one further in the upcoming season after successive second-place finishes and have bolstered their ranks with the capture of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is also a target for Arsenal and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Spaniard only wants to join Arteta’s side this summer, indicating that they are not quite done in the transfer market.

Now, if reports are to be believed, Arsenal have softened their stance on one of their longest-serving players, who could be moved on to fund potential signings.

Arsenal ready to offload Marseille target Eddie Nketiah

According to David Ornstein, the Gunners are willing to allow Nketiah to leave the club this summer on an initial loan deal if there is an obligation to buy next summer for a fee of around £25m.

Marseille have had multiple bids for Nketiah turned down by Arsenal this summer despite agreeing terms with the English striker.

Arteta said in pre-season that Nketiah is a player he loves, but with the Gunners making their transfer stance abundantly clear, it is now up to the Ligue 1 side to decide whether they want to stick or twist.

Do Arsenal need another attacker if Eddie Nketiah leaves?

Nketiah chipped in with six goals in 37 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal last season, deputizing for the injured Gabriel Jesus at the start of the 2023-24 campaign when Kai Havertz was getting up to speed at his new club.

With Jesus and Havertz set to compete with one another for the centre-forward role and the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard fighting it out for a spot on the left wing, Arsenal are adequately covered in these two positions.

The right flank is predominantly occupied by Bukayo Saka, who is one of the first names on the team sheet for Arteta.

With Reiss Nelson keen on a transfer to another Premier League club in search of regular game time, Arsenal would be best advised to look for a right winger to deputise for Saka if they dip into the transfer market for reinforcements after Nketiah’s potential departure.

TBR Football exclusively revealed earlier today that Bournemouth are plotting a move for Nketiah as Dominic Solanke edges closer to a move to Tottenham Hotspur. However, with Marseille already agreeing personal terms with the 25-year-old, it remains to be seen if his head is turned by a potential move to the Vitality Stadium.
