David Ornstein says 42-year-old Sporting Director also won’t take the Liverpool job

Liverpool need a new manager, but just as importantly, they need a new Sporting Director.

Indeed, while Jurgen Klopp’s announcement last week was a bombshell, the fact that Jorg Schmadtke is also leaving shouldn’t be ignored.

The Reds need a new Sporting Director through the door, and it looks as though they’re already making moves on that front.

Indeed, an approach to Michael Edwards was reported earlier this week, but he knocked the Reds back.

Of course, talk about Edwards’ return has led to many wondering whether or not Julian Ward could be considered as another option to return to the club.

However, speaking to NBC, David Ornstein has made it clear that Ward is not open to joining Liverpool if he gets the call.

Ward doesn’t want to come back

Ornstein shared what he knows about the 42-year-old.

“I reported yesterday that Michael Edwards received a call from Mike Gordon floating the idea of a return to Liverpool, but he shut it down in quick time, he will not be coming back nor will the Sporting Director who followed Michael Edwards, Julian Ward, if the question is put to him,” Ornstein said.

Plenty more fish in the sea

Ward and Edwards won’t be coming back, but there are plenty more fish in the sea for Liverpool.

There’s no shortage of quality operators out there just waiting for an opportunity with a club like Liverpool.

Make no mistake about it, the Reds are one of the biggest and most attractive clubs in world football, and Liverpool shouldn’t find it too hard to find a replacement for Schmadtke.
