There’s less than a week to go in the January transfer window, and there are a number of teams that have work to do.
Liverpool are currently the Premier League leaders, and, at the moment the Reds are favourites to win the league.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 22 | 16 | 5 | 1 | 54 | 21 | 33 | 53 | |
| 2 | 23 | 13 | 8 | 2 | 44 | 21 | 23 | 47 | |
| 3 | 23 | 13 | 5 | 5 | 33 | 27 | 6 | 44 | |
| 4 | 23 | 12 | 5 | 6 | 47 | 30 | 17 | 41 |
Liverpool have been linked with some signings in this transfer window.
Indeed, Milos Kerkez has been linked with Liverpool recently, while Jamie Carragher says the Reds need a new left-back.
Speaking on The Overlap, David Ornstein has been discussing Liverpool’s plans before the end of this transfer window, and he says that he’s not aware of any moves Liverpool are looking to make this month.
Liverpool were linked to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia by Ornstein at one point, but that trail has gone dead as the winger has now ended up at PSG.

What Liverpool are planning before deadline day
Unfortunately, Ornstein didn’t have any juicy transfer gossip to share this time.
The journalist says that he’s not hearing anything about Liverpool making transfers, and that it’s quite refreshing to see that Liverpool fans aren’t constantly clamouring for new additions.
“What areas are Liverpool looking at? Are they looking at this January window or are they looking more in the summer?” Ornstein was asked.
“I’m not aware of Liverpool making moves in this market and it’s really refreshing to hear somebody speaking like that about transfers as a whole and the insatiable appetite of social media and it gets incredibly toxic at pretty much every club and disturbing at times as well. It’s become a sport within the sport and many seem to care far more about the transfers than the actual football with no care about the ramifications and the pressure it seems to put on clubs, which in many cases does permeate inside the club or occasionally into the stadium and is just unhealthy.”
Why Liverpool could have a busy summer
Liverpool may not be planning for a big January transfer splurge, but they could be set for a busy summer transfer window.
Indeed, there are a number of reasons to believe Liverpool could be looking to spend big in the summer.
| Five reasons Liverpool could have a busy summer |
| 1. Liverpool still haven’t spent the Moises Caicedo money after £111m bid in 2023 |
| 2. Liverpool still haven’t spent the money they set aside for Martin Zubimendi last summer |
| 3. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s contracts could all expire, freeing up a lot of wage space |
| 4. As potential Premier League champions, Liverpool will be a more desirable destination |
| 5. Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and Arne Slot are yet to build a team in their own vision |
Liverpool haven’t made a big, huge marquee signing for quite some time. In fact, the last huge signing of that ilk Liverpool made was Darwin Nunez way back in 2022.
After three years of keeping their powder relatively dry, Liverpool should have the cash available to replenish this squad with some more exciting talents.
Liverpool may well head into next summer as Premier League champions, but they’re not likely to rest on their laurels.
