Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with possible swoops for Dominik Szoboszlai in January.

The Gunners are said to see the Hungarian talent as a means of fixing their creativity issues and a cheaper alternative to Houssem Aouar.

Szoboszlai is expected to depart RB Salzburg next month given his amazing form for the club and his enticingly low release clause of €25 million/£22.8 million.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Salzburg are expecting Szoboszlai to let them know by December 15 if he wishes to leave, and the club are giving suitors the chance to lodge bids for the player up until December 31, ready to potentially accept one when the window opens in January – meaning the likes of Spurs and Arsenal have a window of 16 days to act.

It seems Salzburg are keen to get the Szoboszlai situation resolved as quickly as possible so they can get other business done and focus on their season.

Ornstein also adds that Salzburg have a 20% sell-on clause that applies to the entire fee Szoboszlai moves for in the future, rather than the difference between the fee he moves on for and what he was signed for.

TBR’s View – Arsenal and Tottenham must get to work quickly

Szoboszlai is undoubtedly one of Europe’s most promising players, having scored 25 goals and made 33 assists in 79 games for Salzburg – and interest him is very high.

Real Madrid have also been linked, and RB Leipzig are said to be in with a good chance of signing him being Salzburg’s sister club.

Given his quality and potential, it might be that suitors actually end up offering more than his £22.8 million release clause to sign him.
