Mohamed Salah’s future is one of the most talked about topics on Merseyside at the moment, with everything up in the air right now.

Liverpool currently find themselves in a position where they’ve got three of their main stars with contracts that are coming to an end, but no clear sign of any new deals being completed.

Virgil van Dijk has stated that he’s very calm about his Liverpool future, but there’s nothing sorted yet and anything could happen.

Elsewhere, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract talks are at a standstill and there is interest from Real Madrid, so he’s one that could opt to move, though the Reds desperately want to keep him.

Lastly, Mohamed Salah spoke out after the Manchester United game about how it’s his last season at the club, which can be taken out of context as that doesn’t mean he’ll actually leave.

David Ornstein has weighed in on the Egyptian’s situation as he dropped a little claim on what he thinks is going on right now…

What David Ornstein thinks of Mohamed Salah’s contract situation after Liverpool vs Man United comments

Mohamed Salah‘s contract situation will be one of the key aims for Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards now the summer transfer window has ended.

With three goals and three assists in his opening three Premier League games it’s clear to see that he still has what it takes to perform at the top level, but in the back of the club’s mind they must also be thinking about a potential younger replacement as he is now 32.

Interestingly, David Ornstein thinks Liverpool may try and structure something.

“I think it’s quite a straightforward case of Liverpool not yet approaching Salah and his representatives about a potential extension.

“And so for all intents and purposes and the only thing that he can say is that this is his last season at the club because it is as things stand. That could change.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they try and structure something because he’s such a fantastic player, still seemingly in the prime of his career.

“Clearly Mo Salah mentioning it in public could be construed as applying pressure to Liverpool, Virgil Van Dijk has spoken about it recently too on his own situation.

“It’s something that’s on the in tray of Richard Hughes, the Sporting Director”.

Who could Liverpool sign to replace Mohamed Salah?

One player who Liverpool tried to sign in the summer transfer window was Anthony Gordon, so they could revisit a move for the boyhood Liverpool fan.

The Reds moved quick to snap up Federico Chiesa so he could be an option, though you’d think that Liverpool would splash out on a bigger name.

Of course, there is still the potential for him to stay at Liverpool, but with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts also potentially in the pipeline, the club may opt not to renew.

But, considering Liverpool signed Salah for £36.9 million back in 2017, they’ve more than got their moneys worth with 214 goals and 92 assists in 352 games for the Reds.
