David Moyes has claimed that he is really pleased with Said Benrahma, but insisted that he is still working on getting West Ham United’s summer signing up to speed, in comments reported by Football London.
Benrahma has taken a little time to force his way into Moyes’s starting lineup at the London Stadium. He made four substitute appearances before starting at Leeds on Friday.
The Algerian had shown glimpses of his quality in his previous outings. But his display at Elland Road saw the 25-year-old show just how dangerous he can be.
Benrahma gave Leeds a torrid evening at times. He looked so dangerous whenever he got the ball, and he did a fantastic job of driving the side forward.
It is now going to be incredibly difficult for Moyes to justify leaving him out anytime soon. But, while the Hammers boss was full of praise for Benrahma, he suggested that he is still finding his feet with his new club.
“He did some really good things at Leeds, he gave us a really positive result,” he said, as reported by Football London.
“I think he is still finding his way but we are really pleased with him. I think we still need to get him up to match speed, Premier League speed and getting him used to the levels we want him playing at.”
TBR View: Benrahma threatening to become a talisman
Benrahma’s display last time out is particularly exciting given what he achieved at Brentford last year. He scored 17 goals and contributed nine assists in the Championship.
Of course, it is asking a lot to expect the attacker to replicate anything like those returns with the Irons. But there is no question that he is already playing like the magician who terrorised so many Championship defenders last season.
