David Moyes has praised Jarrod Bowen’s performance in West Ham United’s win over Sheffield United, and suggested that he could be another wide-man who thrives as a striker in the future, in comments reported by Football London.
With Michail Antonio still sidelined, Bowen started up front against the Blades on Monday. The 24-year-old did well as the Hammers won 3-0 at the London Stadium.

It would not have been a role that would have been completely unfamiliar to Bowen. As Moyes went on to suggest, the wide-man featured in that position during his time with his former club.
And Moyes went on to hint that Bowen could well be an option he considers for the striker role in the future as well.

“Jarrod Bowen played as a centre-forward for a little bit with Hull City and has scored some goals throughout his career. I thought Jarrod did a great job tonight as a forward player,” he said, as reported by Football London.
“It gives us other options and might have given Jarrod a little freshen up as well. the history recently here is that any wingers who end up as a centre-forward become very good so who knows if the same thing can happen with Jarrod.”
As Moyes notes, Antonio has proved a revelation since moving forward to lead the line. Meanwhile, moving Marko Arnautovic from the wing proved to be a masterstroke during Moyes’ first tenure.
Bowen – who earns around £96,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has proved to be an inspired signing for the Irons. Only Tomas Soucek has scored more than the forward so far this season.
Meanwhile, he has also provided three assists in the top flight. And his ability to play across the forward line could make him hugely important for Moyes’s side over the coming months.
He perhaps has some way to go before he proves that he can really fill Antonio’s shoes. But he is certainly off to a promising start.
