David Moyes explains what he finds very ‘strange’ about Edu leaving Arsenal for Nottingham Forest role

Arsenal haven’t had the greatest start to the new Premier League season.

Arsenal reside in fifth place having dropped 12 points already, so many are now doubting if they’re too far behind to win the league.

Disciplinary issues have been their Achilles heel this term as they’ve been reduced to 10 men in three separate games.

Mikel Arteta has a tough job to turn it around and he’s now just lost his sporting director Edu Gaspar ahead of the January transfer window.

Former West Ham United manager David Moyes has now shared his thoughts on the surprise exit.

David Moyes surprised at timing of Edu’s departure from Arsenal

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, David Moyes explained that he found the timing of Edu’s Arsenal exit very strange.

“I thought it was strange he would leave Arsenal in a position where they are getting close to winning a Premier League title over the last couple of years.

“It looks like he had a really good relationship with Mikel as well, which is not easy. Getting those relationships with owners or managers can be difficult.

“I thought they worked really well together. I don’t know who makes all the signings at Arsenal, I’m sure the manager has the final say on them all, but Edu has played a big part in the players they have brought in there.”

Arsenal need new sporting director before January transfer window

Ideally, Arsenal need a new sporting director before the January transfer window.

The North Londoners are crying out for a specialist number nine and Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres would be absolutely perfect.

Arsenal closely watched Gyokeres’s situation in the summer but they opted against activating his £86m release clause.

It’s thought he could be signed for less than that clause, though, so it’s imperative they have a new chief installed as soon as possible to make negotiations easier.
