David Moyes comments on his West Ham tenure and Marko Arnautovic

David Moyes has commented on his time at West Ham United on BeIN Sports, stating that he is firmly of the belief that he did a good job with the Hammers – and also made a big claim about Marko Arnautovic.

West Ham produced an excellent win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday after coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 in injury time. Moyes was a pundit for BeIN Sports watching on.

Moyes commented on his time at the London Stadium, in which he joined the club after the sacking of Slaven Bilic. He took the east Londoners from the relegation zone to a comfortable 13th place.

Asked about his time with the Hammers, former Everton and Manchester United manager Moyes claimed that he was proud of what he had achieved and reckons Arnautovic can play for anyone in England.

“There was about eight or nine clubs that could’ve gone down, and West Ham were one of them,” Moyes said. “We thought we had done a really good job with what we had. Work had to be done in January.

“We had to get a few players out and shake things up a bit. But in the end, if you look at what we did with Marko Arnautovic – how he came on, from someone a bit sultry to being outstanding.

“I think he could play for most of the top teams in the Premier League.”

TBR’s view

Moyes was the manager West Ham needed to fill a gap, but Manuel Pellegrini was the man the Hammers needed to go forward and get behind.

Arnautovic, meanwhile, can indeed play for the best when at the top of his game. But when the Austrian lets off-the-field matters get to him – i.e. transfers – he loses his momentum.

West Ham is a good fit for the ex-Stoke City man.
