David Moyes begging for Leeds to return to Premier League after 16 years

David Moyes has told TalkSPORT that he is desperate to see Leeds United regain promotion to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2004.

Leeds suffered relegation to the Championship back in 2004 after a 4-1 loss to Bolton Wanderers, with Alan Smith’s tears and beach blonde hair still a painful image for Leeds fans across the country.

Since then, the Whites have suffered administration, play-off heartache on multiple occasions, 15 managers, points deductions, Championship relegation, League One promotion and perhaps best of all – Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine took Leeds to within an inch of automatic promotion last term, and now fans are hopeful he can go one better this time around. Moyes put his Manchester United history in the past, to say he hopes Leeds go up.

“I think the Premier League needs Leeds United back,” Moyes said. “I’ve been to a couple of games, I watched them a year ago away at Fulham and the support they brought to the game was just incredible.

“Leeds United’s support is arguably one of the best in the country. I think they’re missed out of the Premier League. I really do.”

TBR’s view – Can Leeds gain promotion?

The main struggle for Leeds last season was converting chances into goals. The club boasted the most amount of chances, and the least amount of chances conceded.

But they lacked a striker that could score goal after goal. Patrick Bamford is struggling to cope with the pressure of Leeds fans, while Kemar Roofe has left to join RSC Anderlecht.

The new signing of Eddie Nketiah, then, could be the man to finally take Leeds back to the top. Nketiah could make his debut on Tuesday night against Salford City in the Carabao Cup.
