Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James believes current Reds number one Alisson is second to none in the Premier League.
The Brazilian has enjoyed a fine debut campaign at Anfield and is on course to scoop the Golden Glove at the end of the season.
Last summer’s signing from AS Roma has been generally solid between the sticks, shipping just 20 goals so far in the Premier League.
He has been a breath of fresh air following the panic brought about by Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, and there is a good chance he will make the PFA’s Team of the Season.
He has thoroughly impressed James, who made over 300 appearances for Liverpool between 1992-1999, who compared the stopper to a Manchester United legend.
Speaking on Stadium Astro, he said: “I was asked a few months ago who the best goalkeeper in the Premier League is. Allison is head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of clean sheets.
“And he reminds me of Edwin van der Sar. When he was at United, van der Sar would break consecutive clean sheet records. He controlled his area so well, he’d make saves but a lot of skill was not about saving.”
van der Sar was undeniably one of the best goalkeepers the Premier League has ever seen so Alisson has a way to go before actually stacking up properly agaisnt the Dutchman.
But in terms of style, there are definitely similarities as much as some Liverpool fans might not want to hear them.
Alisson’s command of his area is very impressive. He appears to carry an aura about him in the same way van der Sar also did.
He may be shielded by a brilliant defence, but fans have still been able to see his quality when it has been breached.
