West Ham United have acted quickly in this summer’s transfer window by bringing in two new goalkeepers, after releasing Andy Carroll, Samir Nasri and Adrian – and David Gold is expecting another exit.
The Hammers completed the signings of veteran Spanish goalkeeper Roberto, as well as luring David Martin to the London Stadium from bitter rivals Millwall. They also confirmed two sales on Monday.
Lucas Perez has returned to Spain with La Liga outfit Alaves, while Edimilson Fernandez has joined German Bundesliga side Mainz – after spending last season on loan at Fiorentina.
The Hammers now boast Martin – son of West Ham legend Alvin Martin – and Roberto as back up to Lukasz Fabianski. Co-owner Gold welcomed Martin, as well as stating that it will allow Nathan Trott to go out on loan.
Trott becomes the second English player to leave the club with Carroll being released. The 20-year-old has starred for the Hammers in Premier League 2, but he is yet to make his senior debut.
TBR’s view
Trott has huge potential, and should feel slightly hard done by that he has not been made third choice – instead the Hammers choosing to bring in experienced goalkeeper Martin from Millwall.
He has little choice, then, to go on loan. His performances in the second string for the Hammers certainly warrants a team at least in League One, if not the Championship.
Trott is sure to have a big future in Premier League football, and it should not take West Ham long to realise that they have a star waiting in the wings when he shines on loan.
