Darren Ferguson comments on Leeds United’s display at the weekend

Leeds United are firmly back in business, their start-of-year downturn in form blown away by four consecutive wins, all with clean sheets, culminating in a 4-0 triumph last time out.

The Whites of Marcelo Bielsa put Hull City to the sword on Saturday and remain five points clear of third-placed Fulham in the Championship table – as well as just one point behind leaders West Bromwich Albion.

It didn’t take long for Leeds to break the deadlock against Hull as Luke Ayling weighed in with a long-range effort which cannoned off Callum Elder en route to the back of the net in the fifth minute.

Pablo Hernandez then doubled the Whites’ advantage just two minutes into the second half, and Tyler Roberts made sure of all three points with his side’s third and fourth late on, Leeds not taking their foot off the gas throughout the entirety of the game.

The Elland Road side’s demolition job of the Tigers thoroughly impressed Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson, who told his club’s YouTube channel following the Posh’s 1-1 draw with Burton that he needed his charges to be more like Leeds.

“I’ve said to the players if you go ahead, you need to get another goal,” he said.

“If you go one goal ahead you want to go and bury them, that’s what teams that get promoted will do. I watched the game this morning and Leeds just went and buried Hull, that’s what I need.”

It speaks volumes about Leeds’ devastating return to form that fellow EFL managers are now publicly urging their team to be more like the Elland Road side, who put in a virtually flawless performance at the weekend.

Like Leeds, Peterborough are hoping to achieve promotion this season, the Posh currently seventh in the League One table on 56 points, six behind second-placed Rotherham.

It’ll be a tall order for the Cambridgeshire side to claim a top-two spot, but should they contest the playoffs, they cannot afford to let leads slip as they did against Burton.

As such, the Whites’ superb ability to maintain their lead, as they have done in their last few games, is sure to be an inspiration.
